About
the Contest
Each
student team must work with a qualifying Producer Member to
build a precast concrete beam, no more than 18 feet long. The
beams will be tested and prizes awarded for best performance in
the stated areas.
Selection
of National and
Zone Winners
First
place winners from each of the six PCI Zones, along with the
International entries considered as Zone 7, competed for the
overall championship. In addition to the seven national winners,
there are three winners from each zone, and Innovative Design,
Best Report and Mix Design Winners.

Selection
of the top three
participating teams
within Florida.
Selecting from all
of the Florida teams that submit final Test
Reports as part of the 2008 Big Beam Contest and
using the competition results as computed by PCI's
Student Education Committee in their process to
determine the National and Zone 6 winners, the FPCA's
Education Foundation
will
determine the top three teams within
Florida.
Based
on those results, the Foundation will award
to the respective Engineering Departments of those
teams the following:
1st
place team within the state of Florida, the Engineering Department
will receive a $1,000 unrestricted gift.
2nd
place team within the state of Florida, the
Engineering Department will receive a $500 unrestricted
gift.
3rd
place team within the state of Florida, the
Engineering Department will receive a $250 unrestricted
gift.
In
addition, if a school from Florida wins the
overall 1st place in the National Big Beam competition,
the Engineering Department of that school will receive
an additional $1,000 unrestricted gift from the
Foundation.

Also, each of the Engineering Departments of the
top three Florida teams will receive a plaque
recognizing their accomplishments that will list
the sponsoring professor, the team members and the
sponsoring producer. |
